Assam-based Mahalaxmi Continental Limited, a subsidiary of Guwahati-headquartered Mahalaxmi Group, has exported a consignment of low ash metallurgical (LAM) coke to Italy.

Rajesh Thapar, Group President – Trading, Mahalaxmi Group stated, “A vessel carrying 21,590 MT of LAM coke (blast furnace grade) set sail for Italy from Paradip Port in Odisha.”

The consignment is meant for Acciaierie d’Italia, which specializes in the production of carbon steel products.

This is the second export order executed by the company after it dispatched 22,000 MT of LAM coke to Indonesia in July this year. LAM coke is a critical raw material for steel industry.

“Despite being a company based in the Northeast, we have been able to procure regular export orders by meeting the international quality standards, thereby putting the Northeast region on the global map of major exporters, "Thapar said.

The major portion of the cargo was produced by the in-house company of Mahalaxmi Group, while some quantity was sourced from a reputed manufacturer in Odisha by fulfilling stringent quality standards stipulated for export.
The group has plans to export more such consignments to different parts of the world, including South East Asia, every month.

Mahalaxmi Group has its power and coke manufacturing units in Assam, West Bengal and Odisha.
